Leeds Festival capacity 'could increase'

Another 5,000 festival-goers may be able to rock out at Leeds Festival this year, as organisers may seek permission to raise capacity.

A report compiled for Leeds City Council's licensing committee has revealed that event organiserFestivalRepubliccould seek to open the festival to more people.

Last summer capacity was raised from 69,999 to 74,999, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.

Organisers could, if ticket sales indicate there is a demand, seek out a further 5,000 hike.

The news would be warmly received by many aLeedsstudent, who descend on the festival in their thousands every year.

The council report says: "Consultation with the responsible authorities suggests that there would be no objection to the proposed capacity provided that the site facilities and supporting infrastructures were adequate to support this."

FestivalRepublichas previously said it hopes 89,999 revellers will be able to attend the festival by 2014.
