Leeds University helps disadvantaged teens

Teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds are to be shown how to secure a place at university, thanks to a series of workshops being held in Leeds.

Some 200 A-level students will between now and the summer of 2013 receive guidance on how to succeed in their studies, and aim for a place at a top university.

Leeds University will host advice sessions, subject workshops and academic training sessions, to help youngsters decide upon courses, universities and potential future careers.

They will get a flavour of what life at university might be like, as a Leeds student or an undergraduate at another institution.

The aim of the Reach for Excellence programme is to help disadvantaged teenagers to do well in their studies, and make their dream of going to university a reality.

Ceri Nursaw, from Leeds University, said: "The support offers new, brighter horizons for these remarkable young people and will genuinely transform lives."
