The Masons on the Green scheme by Pikard Properties in Horsforth, Leeds

Pickard Properties launches a new build-to-rent scheme in Horsforth

The longest established home letting specialist in the Leeds area, Pickard Properties, is launching another build-to-rent scheme – this time in a conservation area in Horsforth, five miles north-west of Leeds city centre.

Building on the award-winning success of its highly popular Spinning Acres scheme in Far Headingley, The Masons on the Green at Horsforth is smaller, providing five luxury, loft-style apartments with three adjoining town houses.

The focal point of the development is the ancient Black Bull Inn, which is one of Horsforth’s oldest pubs, dating back to 1654.  The building was purchased by Pickard Properties in 2008, in a poor state of repair.

Since then, extensive redevelopment and refurbishment work has resulted in a modern makeover to assure the building’s existence well into the future where no expense has been spared to create modern, well-designed accommodation with gardens and parking.

The Masons on the Green now offers what is arguably, some of the finest rental property available in Horsforth.

Following redevelopment, four one-bed apartments have been created on the first floor with a two-bed apartment on the top floor, while three town houses form a continuation of a stone terrace to the rear.  At ground floor level, The Black Bull Inn will continue to operate.

Commenting on Pickard Properties’ latest build-to-rent scheme, Director, Catherine Coleman, said:

“This is another niche development for us and one that we are very proud to bring to market.  We expect it to be highly sought after by a range of renters, particularly young professionals and families – in fact, anyone who loves the idea of living in a bustling community with a host of amenities on their doorstep.

“We thought long and hard about how to re-purpose this wonderful old building and as is our custom, we have taken great care to specify the highest quality materials throughout.  I should like to thank the Horsforth Historical Society for its valuable contribution throughout the development programme.

“We have matched the original Yorkshire stone and roof slates to the existing building fabric, installing wooden windows in keeping with the building’s listed status and replacing all floors and ceilings with high grade acoustic materials to safeguard against any noise from passing traffic.

“It is fair to say, we are delighted with the finished product and pleased to have been able to extend the life of this very significant building for many more years because it has withstood the test of time at the heart of Horsforth’s development over the centuries.”

Richard Walsh, Director at architects, Halliday Clark, added:

“The Black Bull Inn is an important piece of local heritage and a respectful conversion was crucial to ensure that the development massing and detailing responded to and was in keeping with the context of the local street scene along Town Street. We worked closely with conservation specialists to ensure that both materials and the colour palette were carefully chosen to deliver a fitting next chapter in the long story of this site.”

Rents start from £1275.00 pcm for the townhouses and from £775.00 pcm furnished for the apartments.

Accommodation at The Masons on the Green will be available for virtual viewings mid-April and anyone interested should pre-register at The Masons On The Green to book their slot.  Those who pre-book will be given priority viewings.

Architect for the scheme was Halliday Clark, contractor was Dobson Construction with Fox Lloyd Jones as quantity surveyors.

  • Plans were also recently revealed for a development of more than 600 student flats to the north of Leeds city centre by B&B Pickard, the commercial division of Pickard Properties.
  • Pickard Properties’ Spinning Acres, a unique £40m private rental development in the Far Headingley conservation area of Leeds, has already picked up a clutch of awards and is only half-way through the seven phases of its redevelopment.
